I’ve been practicing my mixing for my upcoming show at Pole-a-polooza 2011. (Click HERE for more information on the show.)
I’ve recorded a couple of the mixes. You can listen to the latest mix:

Hip Hop class/Naughties show
Tonight, I finally returned to Hip Hop class, after taking a few weeks off. We learned a combo to Ginuwine’s Get Involved. It was a short routine, but very quick. It was a lot of fun, and I’ve been away from class for far too long.
Afterward, I went and saw the Naughties play at Tom Grainey’s. It was a pretty small crowd this week, but they rocked it as usual. They did an amazing version of She Wants Revenge’s Tear You Apart with guest vocalist Chet (who DJ’s karaoke on Sunday nights at the 44.) I love those guys!

Upcoming – April and May
Here is what is coming up in the next couple of months:
- April 21 – Jenn and Larz’s wedding. I got my ordination so I can marry them. This is a really big honor for me because they have become some of my best friends over the last year.
- April 22 – The reception.
- April 25 – My birthday. Nothing is really planned for this date. Mostly recovering from the reception.
- May 7 – Joint birthday celebration for Larz and me. This is going to be crazy.
- May 13 – Pole-a-polooza. I was hired by Ophidia Studio to DJ this event.

New Laptop
I used my tax refunds to purchase a brand new 13-Inch Macbook Pro. I am so happy.
I can finally use Propellerhead Record (my old Macbook was just on the edge of being too old for it.)
Here is a link to a quick 8-bar snippet of a song I started playing around with in Record on my new friend:

Digeum Mix Session 06 B
I finally recorded a new Digeum Mix. The previous mix I recorded was in November, 2010, so this one is long overdue. This is just shy of an hour and a half of dirty dubstep at 140 BPM.

Hip Hop Class
Last week, I started taking a hip hop dance class taught by my friend @Triana33. The class is held every Thursday at 7PM MST at Heirloom Dance Studio. The cost of each lesson is a very reasonable $10. I’m not particularly good at it yet, but it is a lot of fun and good exercise.
The above video is the combo we learned yesterday. It is difficult, but a lot of fun. The song is Pro Nails (Rusko Remix) by Kid Sister.
I hurt today.

Reason 5.0 workflow
Below I linked to the latest track that I completed and uploaded yesterday. (here)
This is the first track I have completed since I upgraded to Reason 5.0/Record 1.5 last year. It took me a while to get a handle on the new workflow.
The Propellerheads created a thing they call “Blocks”. Each block is essentially a loop in which you build all of the sections of your song (drums, synth, FX, etc.) You can create as many blocks as you need and name them to remind you what they are.
Then when you build out your track, it’s a matter of just drawing in each block section where you want it to start and finish. Now here’s the good part. You can use the mute tool to mute parts of each section within the block. You can also add a different loop right over the part within the block. This is very handy for when you want to make quick changes.
So, for example, you’ve created the main body section of your track. In it, you have a synth that runs throughout. You decide you want to mute that synth for a measure, then drop in a solo using the same instrument. You simply mute that synth where you don’t want to hear it, then drop a loop on top of the muted section with your solo.
Now that I’ve had a chance to work with it, it is a very efficient way of building up a track. It makes working with Reason a lot more fun (and I found it fun to begin with).

Genre: Electro-House
Tempo: 131 BPM
I wrote this track this evening. The name was inspired by a series of zombie apocalypse dreams I’ve periodically had over the last couple of years. I had one of them last night, so I thought it was appropriate. Special thanks to @brandiglam for helping me get past my songwriters-block.
